The Ryan Maguire Turner Endowment Fund
On August 15, 1997, Ryan lost his battle with leukemia. We know he is in heaven and safe with God! Throughout his seven months of treatment, Ryan maintained a brave, courteous and uncomplaining attitude with his family and the caregivers at the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford University. We cannot express adequately how wonderful the personnel and facilities are at this hospital. Ryan's faith, character and vibrant spirit touched his caregivers, and he continues to make a significant impression on people who have learned of his battle with this disease.
The research capabilities at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital are highly rated and nationally recognized in their field, focusing on curing cancer in children. This hospital is also a member of the Children's Oncology Group, made up of more than 100 hospitals nationwide and internationally, that share research, define cancer therapies and follow established protocols. Your support will benefit cancer research in an affiliated hospital near you through the Pediatric Oncology Group.
The Ryan Maguire Turner Endowment Fund will have an important purpose in funding continuing pediatric cancer research for a lifetime and beyond through this ongoing Endowment. Ryan's form of cancer, Undifferentiated Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, is extremely rare and will certainly benefit from this research. By way of annual fund disbursements, your contribution will assist in finding a cure for cancer and make the difficult therapy for this disease more endurable for children as follows:
Seventy Five Percent (75%) of the proceeds are designated specifically for ongoing research of leukemia through the Child Health Research Fund at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.
Twenty Five Percent (25%) of the proceeds are designated for the Recreation Therapy Department at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. The funds will purchase games, craft materials and computer software that provide children essential relief from their treatments while in the hospital for extended periods of time. An example of this is the Starbright World program, an interactive computer network that connects numerous children's hospitals across the United States. This department was a blessing to Ryan, allowing him to have fun as he participated in its various activities.
In the seven years we were blessed to have him, Ryan demonstrated purity in faith, endless courage and a positive attitude. Through The Ryan Maguire Turner Endowment Fund, his name will live on for generations in funding research to find a cure for cancer in children. We sincerely thank you for your consideration in supporting The Ryan Maguire Turner Endowment Fund.
We miss him!
Shaun and Miriam Turner
